Dog Staycation

Your Dog’s Staycation; get ready with Beaphar

There are plenty of pet-friendly holidays that you can take your dog on in the UK. When preparing to take your dog on holiday with you, it is a good idea to pack a travel kit for them. Such as:

  • Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser and Spray: to help keep your dog calm.
  • Beaphar Wound Ointment: perfect if there are any little injuries.
  • Beaphar IntestoPro: just in case there are any upset tummies along the way.
  • Beaphar Tick Away: for use on pets and people, should any unwanted ticks appear.
  • Beaphar Toothbrush & Toothpaste: for clean teeth and fresh breath.
  • Beaphar BIO Shampoo: in case of muddy walks.
  • Beaphar Canishield®: to keep fleas and ticks at bay.

When you're holidaying with your pet there is a lot to pack. Use the Beaphar Staycation Checklist to make sure you're prepared:

Before you go away

  • If your dog uses a travel crate, leave it out in the house with a blanket or their favourite toy, you could also feed them one of their meals in the crate, to help them form a relaxed and positive association with being in there.
  • Use the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Spray in your dog’s crate. Each application lasts up to five hours, but be sure to never use the spray while your dog is inside the crate.
  • Always make sure you pack any medication your pet may be taking and ensure your contact information for their microchip and collar ID tag is up to date.
  • Fit the Beaphar Canishield® flea and tick collar to your dog 1 week before you leave.

The day you leave

  • Use the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Spray in your dog's crate, or on their harness, 15 minutes before putting them in, to keep them calm during your journey.
  • Pop in some of your dog's favourite toys or blanket with them.
  • Ensure your dog has access to water right until you set off. Ideally, your dog should have access to water during the car journey – you can purchase non-spill bowls. However, if your dog travels on the seat, secured by a pet car harness, be sure to stop regularly and offer them water.
  • Some dogs get nauseous whilst travelling, so it may be best to avoid giving them a big meal before leaving. Never put any treats or food in the crate as there is a small risk of them choking whilst you're driving.
  • Check the car isn't too hot, your dog has enough shade and stop regularly to check they're OK.
  • Plan for travel breaks to let your dog stretch their legs and go to the toilet.

When you arrive

  • Plug in a Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser into an open area in your accommodation, or the room your dog will spend most of their time in. One diffuser covers a 70m² space.
  • The diffuser takes up to 24 hours to distribute around the room so it's a good idea to use the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Spray as well on the first day to help your dog feel safe and reassured.
  • Make sure your Beaphar BIO Shampoo is to hand for when you get back from those muddy walks.
