Most dogs love their home comforts, but they can still feel unsettled when the rest of their family are not there. Whether you’re getting a trusted pet sitter, or a family member, to look after your dog it’s still not going to be quite the same for them while you’re away.

When preparing to leave your dog at home with a pet sitter, it is a good idea to prepare a home-care kit for them. Such as:

To give your dog the holiday treat they deserve it’s important to make sure the person looking after them knows everything to help make the transition as smooth as possible. Ideally, discuss things with your pet sitter beforehand and also leave them a note to remind them of important things about your dog. • If your dog is on any medication, make sure they have enough to last while you’re away.
• Ensure your contact information for their microchip is up-to-date. 

Make sure your pet sitter has all the information they need to look after your dog and home. It's a good idea to create an information pack for your pet, including information such as: 

• Your dog’s personality and little quirks
• Their food (and treat) schedule
• The last time they had their flea and/or worm treatment
• Veterinary contact details
• Any relevant medical history or medication required while you’re away
• Microchip information
• Pet insurance details
• House rules (e.g. Is your dog is allowed to sleep anywhere and/or not allowed in the bedrooms?)
• The address of where you’re staying and a contact number
• Emergency contact details, other than yourself

• Take your dog for a walk as normal.
• Use the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Spray on your dog’s bed and favourite sleeping area to help them feel reassured whilst you’re packing to leave. Dogs often find the disruption caused by us packing to go away quite stressful and unsettling.
• Confirm what time the pet sitter is arriving and ensure your dog has sufficient food and water to last until they arrive.
• Leave your pet’s information pack somewhere visible for the pet sitter.
• When you arrive, inform the pet sitter you are safely at your destination.
