Your Cat’s Staycation; get ready with Beaphar

There are plenty of pet-friendly holidays that you can take your cat on in the UK. When preparing to take your cat on holiday with you, it is a good idea to pack a travel kit for them. Such as:

Before you go away

  • Leave the cat carrier out in the house with a blanket or their favourite toy. You could also feed your cat one of their meals in the carrier to help them form a relaxed and positive association with being inside.
  • Use the Beaphar CatComfort® Calming Spray inside your cat's carrier. Each application lasts up to five hours. Just make sure to never spray your cat directly or use it while your cat is inside the carrier.
  • Always make sure you pack any medication your cat may be taking and ensure your contact information for their microchip is up-to-date.

The day you leave

  • Apply the Beaphar CatComfort® Calming Spot-On around 15 minutes before setting off. The pheromones will create a continuos calming effect that travels with your cat for up to 1 week.
  • Use the Beaphar CatComfort® Calming Spray in your cat's carrier 15 minutes before putting them in, to keep them calm during your journey.
  • Pop in some of your cat's favourite toys or blanket with them.
  • Ensure your cat has access to water right until you set off. Most cats won't drink while they are travelling, but it's still important to make sure they still have access to water, especially if it's a long journey or a hot day. Bowls that clip onto the inside of the carrier are ideal as you can top them up from the outside.
  • Some cats get nauseous whilst travelling, so it may be best to avoid giving them a big meal before leaving. Never put any treats or food in the carrier as there is a small risk of them choking whilst you're driving.
  • Check the car isn't too hot, your cat has enough shade and stop regularly to check they're OK.
  • Do not leave your cat in the car unattended, even in their carrier, as they could quickly become overheated.

When you arrive

  • The Beaphar CatComfort® Calming Spot-On will continue helping your cat feel calm while they setlle into their new surroundings. Choose a room and leave the carrier in there with the door open, and allow your cat to come out in their own time. Make sure they can't escape the room while you are out unpacking your car.
  • Use the Beaphar CatComfort® Calming Spray on blankets and bedding as well on the first day to help your cat feel safe and reassured.
  • Spray some Beaphar STOP IT Pet Behave Spray on any furniture you suspect they may want to sharpen their claws on.
