Description

Beaphar Fly Guard is an easy-to-use, vet-strength medicine containing ivermectin that treats and protects against fly strike in rabbits and guinea pigs. Fly strike is an uncomfortable and potentially fatal illness that affects small animals. Fly strike in rabbits and guinea pigs usually occurs when faeces become stuck to the animal’s rear end, or due to poor hutch hygiene. This attracts blow flies, which lay eggs, causing fly strike. Rabbits and guinea pigs that struggle to keep themselves clean, such as elderly pets or pets with limited mobility, are more susceptible. One application of Beaphar Fly Guard is effective for up to 3 months, and is ideal for using as a preventative measure. This easy-to-use, pump-action spray can be applied to your rabbit or guinea pig early in the summer, providing protection throughout the warmer months when fly strike is most likely to occur. For continued protection, reapply every 3 months. Suitable for rabbits and guinea pigs over 10 weeks of age.

Instructions

ALWAYS FULLY READ THE PRODUCT LABEL AND PACKAGING BEFORE USE. Warning: If your pet is already infested with maggots, you should seek veterinary help immediately. Any delay is likely to result in their death. Weigh your pet carefully before application, and use the following table to calculate the correct dose. Always wear gloves during application. Rabbits and guinea pigs weighing 0.5–1kg: 5 pumps Rabbits and guinea pigs weighing 1–1.5kg: 7 pumps Rabbits and guinea pigs weighing 1.5–3kg: 9 pumps Rabbits and guinea pigs weighing >3kg: 15 pumps 1. Ensure your guinea pig or rabbit is clean and dry. 2. Spray your pet from the middle of their back to the tip of their tail, from a distance of approximately 15cm. It is recommended to treat your rabbit or guinea pig in early summer, before flies are seen. For continuous protection, reapply Beaphar Fly Guard every three months. For Beaphar Fly Guard to be effective against fly strike it is essential to remove any faeces from your rabbit or guinea pig’s bottom area before applying. To do this, carefully soak the affected area in a warm water solution and use an appropriate pet shampoo, such as Beaphar Small Animal Shampoo, to carefully and gently remove any faeces. Once clean, ensure your pet is completely dry before applying Beaphar Fly Guard. Do not use human shampoo on your pet as this could irritate their skin. Hutch hygiene is essential to reduce flies being attracted to your pet and their hutch. It is important you remove all soiled bedding at least once each week, clean litter trays or toilet areas daily, and disinfect the housing with a suitable product, such as Beaphar Deep Clean Cage & Hutch Disinfectant. During the summer months it may be necessary to remove any soiled bedding daily. Additionally, you can use Beaphar Cage Fresh Granules in litter trays or toilet areas to help reduce the smell and the attraction of flies, which will also help reduce the risk of flystrike to your rabbit or guinea pig.
